DRAWING WITH THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN 101  (12 and up) By Request

Bodegón
Pastel on Canson
(c) Corina S. Alvarezdelugo
This class is designed to teach you how to draw from observation. Learn how to translate 3D objects into a 2D surface, and keep the correct proportions and perspective. Most people tend to draw from memory and forget to really look at the subject they want to draw. This is what happens when you try to draw using your left side of the brain (logical, language). But is not about what the object should look like, but what the object actually looks like, and this is what you'll discover when engaging your right side of the brain (images, spacial perception). Come and learn to "look" through a series of exercises that will help you achieve just that, draw. You'll also learn the concepts of line, value, tone, light, shadow, as well as positive and negative shapes, to help you sharpen your drawing skills. Vine charcoal, soft pencil, and kneaded eraser provided. Bring a large clip board to class. Newsprint paper provided.

More advance students may bring pastels, and other substrates to work on.
